Author: Lisa McMann
Description: The small town of Cryer’s Cross is rocked by tragedy when an unassuming freshman disappears without a trace. Kendall Fletcher wasn’t that friendly with the missing girl, but the angst wreaks havoc on her OCD-addled brain.
When a second student goes missing – someone close to Kendall’s heart – the community is in an uproar. Caught in a downward spiral of fear and anxiety, Kendall’s not sure she can hold it together. When she starts hearing the voices of the missing, calling out to her and pleading for help, she fears she’s losing her grip on reality. But when she finds messages scratched in a desk at school – messages that could only be from the missing student who used to sit there – Kendall decides that crazy or not, she’d never forgive herself if she didn’t act on her suspicions.
Something’s not right in Cryer’s Cross – and Kendall’s about to find out just how far the townspeople will go to keep their secrets buried.
Well, from all of the reviews that I’ve read, everybody is right. This book is definitely creepy. But this book is a really fast read, if you continue reading it, and is very good. My mom and I read two hours tonight and we finished it in two days. We both loved it.
I don’t know how the author, Lisa McMann, came up with such a great plot line, but she did it, and it’s was amazing. Cryer’s Cross will keep you reading until your eyes reach the last word.
Who is your favorite character? Well, I don’t really know who my favorite character is. I really liked all of them, but my top favorites are, Kendall, Jacián, Nico, and Marlena. Those are pretty much all of the main characters.
What did you like about this book? I loved the plot line, that it ended good, and how it had enough creepiness that it left you creeped out, but not enough that it would make you have to sleep with your light on at night. Maybe just enough to not want to go anywhere near desks though.
What’s your favorite part of this book? SPOILER ALERT! I really like the part at the end where Kendall is trying to find Nico and she’s kind of possessed by “souls” and buries herself alive. Don’t call me creepy, I just like the creepy and fast-paced parts in a book.
Romance: A few kisses, and a mention of sex, though none of the characters are sleeping together.
Violence: SPOILER ALERT! There is quite a bit of violence. How Nico and Tiffany died was they buried themselves alive without really knowing they were doing it. Not a lot of blood though, just general creepiness. At the end of the book you find out that people were whipped to death on the desk and that’s how their “souls” got there.
Language: There is everything from the “f” word and below.
Alcohol: Not any under aged drinking, but there is a one or two mentions of alcohol and one mention of some of the adults being slightly drunk.
Other: SPOILER ALERT! The main plot is that some of teenagers go missing, by being possessed by “souls” that live in desks. That itself is creepy.
Cryer’s Cross is the second book of Lisa McMann’s that I have found interesting. If you like to be scared and read, this book is for you. Once again, I loved it.
